I am an SLE with specialism for Special Educational Needs.
I am an Early Years Educator for children with SEND and the Early language Lead Professional at South Normanton Nursery School where I have worked since 2005.
I have provided training regarding the role of ELKLAN, ECAT & ECAM and how these can be used to enhance learning, track progress and provide information for planning next steps. I have vast experience of using Makaton signs and symbols within an early years environment to enhance children’s independent play and learning within free flow and to support children displaying challenging behaviour.
I am very passionate about the provision of education and inclusion specifically for those children with SEND. I want to inspire others to be able to work to extend these children to reach and exceed their potential both within their setting and the wider school community. I feel that if I could pass on my passion, knowledge and expertise to others together we could raise the standard of provision for our children with SEND and improve their attainment which will in turn enrich their lives. This will also help to reduce the gap between children with SEND and their peers.
My special interest in SEND developed from having a daughter with severe and complex disabilities. I have first hand experience of supporting children with SEND, working with professionals both in health & education and supporting other parents. My daughter also gives me insight into the hopes, fears and aspirations parents have for their children with SEND.
